Earth and Environmental Systems Research Facility

The Earth and Environmental Systems Research Facility (EESRF) is designated to perform frontier research in earth sciences, specifically in marine science, atmospheric science, and earth surface processes. Cross-disciplinary studies in physical oceanography, marine biogeochemistry, and surface processes in river basins are being developed, together with atmosphere-ocean coupling climate dynamics, ocean-atmosphere-land interaction, and earth system simulations to improve community understanding of the earth and environmental systems.

FEATURED EQUIPMENT

The facility is equipped with advanced analytical systems, including total organic carbon analyzer, an automatic purge-and-trap trace-level nitrogen isotope analyzer, multi-parameter water quality sensors, and a dissolved nutrient autosampler. These analytical systems are critical to research in Earth and environmental sciences.

OUR VISION

The Earth and Environmental Systems Research Facility (EESRF) is one of the core research facilities focusing on natural sciences at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). It is equipped with advanced research equipment and experimental instruments, featuring the testing of various environmental isotopes. Since its establishment, it has been committed to supporting the research on the land-ocean-atmosphere integrated earth system and providing support for research institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in their research on environmentally sustainable development under climate change. The laboratory also provides professional isotope analysis and testing services.
